• It is called Sanjusangen-do Temple so that there are 33 in the spaces between the pillar and the pillar in the main temple. It is the Buddhist temple of the Tendai sect of the name of King Lotus Temple officially. It was a detached palace of Goshirakawa Emperor originally in the corner of a vast site of Hoju Temple Palace. Goshirakawa ordered to make it to Kiyomori Taira in 1164. Disasters attacked it one after another and everything was lost though surroundings, including five-storied pagoda and Fudo Hall, etc., were vast. The main temple that remains now was rebuilt in 1266.

• The viewpoint of Sanjusangen-do Temple is Senju (or Thousand hands) statues of Goddess of Mercy that thickly stand in the long hall. Main statue of Senju goddess of mercy is in the center and ten steps in right and left, and 50 rows, which queue up 500 total in an orderly manner, are masterpieces. These 1001 statues of Goddess of Mercies are said, "11-face 1000-hands statues of Goddess of Mercy." This statue of Goddess of Mercy has 11 faces in overhead, 40 hands sideward both, multiplies working of saving and 40 by 25 by one hand in 25 kinds of worlds, and shows "1000 hands". 1001 statues of Goddess of Mercy were set in the angle at which everyone can look up and worship them.

• The games of the bow have been done on the west side of this hall in Edo period. The samurai shot the bow. The marks of the arrow that comes off remain in the pillars. The archery persons gather, and there will be Passing Arrow competition in January 12th - January 18th.
