• According to the history of the temple, the reason why this temple was constructed in this place is that Saint Kobo opened the Buddha temple to bury exposed remains to nature in the ground. Afterwards, it became Saint Hounen's eternal prayer gym, and called Nenbutsu-ji Temple. It belongs to Jodo sect now. As for a principal image Amida Buddha seated figure, it is Tankei's work and assumed to be excellent works of the Kamakura sculpture together with two stone images of Buddha and Amida in the approach to the temple. A present main temple and priest's living quarters were rebuilt by Jyakudo priest in 1712. The stone images and the stony tower, that counts 8,000 enshrined in the precincts, are graves of people buried to the field region of ancient past.
