• Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Virginia and died on July 4, 1826 at the age of 83. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the memorial on April 13, 1943, on the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birth.

• 1776 - 79, Member of Virginia House of Delegates, 1779 - 81, Governor of Virginia, 1784 - 89, Ambassador to France, 1789 - 93, Secretary of State under President George Washington, 1797 - 1801, Vice President under President John Adams, 1801 - 09, President. Famous for draft of the Declaration of Independence.

• Washington, which is the town of politics and an artificial city, has an interesting configuration. It can be seen by climbing on the Washington Monument of 169m in height. The white buildings enclose it for all sides. White House in the north, Lincoln Memorial in the west, Jefferson Memorial to the south and the Capitol in the east. Jefferson Memorial is on the artificial inlet that was called Tidal Basin and created in the latter half of the 19th century. It looks like river or lake but Tidal Basin is connected to the Potomac river.
